About

I design the interface and build the model behind it.

I’m Sumanth Udupi — a data scientist and product designer. Most teams hire those as two people and lose the insight in the hand-off. I work the whole path: the exploratory analysis, the model, the KPI layer, the dashboard, and the interface that makes all of it usable. This site is not a description of that practice — it is the practice, running in production.

How I work

Ship the evidence

A claim about skill is worth less than a working artifact. Every case study on this site runs live — dashboards you can filter, models you can drive, essays you can touch.

The chart is an argument

Visualization is analysis, not decoration. Chart form, color, and layout are chosen by the question — and treated with the same rigor as the query underneath.

Both halves, one practice

Data work that ignores the interface dies in a notebook; interfaces that ignore the data are theatre. I work the full path: warehouse query → model → visualization → shipped product.

The arc of the work

  1. 2023 — 2024

    Analytics foundations

An eight-project monorepo across the full analyst toolchain — Python EDA and modeling, SQL KPI layers, and executive dashboards in Tableau and Power BI. Every project shipped its dataset, its analysis, and a rendered deliverable together.

  2. 2023 — 2024

    Dashboards as products

A UX dashboard suite — Formula 1 analytics, a Pokédex explorer, an automobile dataset — each shipped as a self-contained, framework-free build that still opens in one click today.

    • React
    • Data viz
    • GitHub Pages
  3. 2024

    Data-visualization craft

A structured tour of visualization technique using seven decades of Formula 1 as the syllabus — chart-form judgment, perceptual color, and data storytelling documented as a reusable curriculum.

    • matplotlib
    • seaborn
    • plotly
  4. 2025 — 2026

    Product engineering

This site: an ink-and-gold design system, ten immersive design-history essays, and nine case studies that run live on the page — a data practice and a design practice built as one.
