Where this idea goes next
- Aesthetic–Usability The same halo that lets Walter's hierarchy exist is the trap it has to guard against: an attractive screen gets rated easier whether or not it actually is, which is exactly why delight can mask, instead of expose, a broken lower gate.
- Gamification A reward loop is surface delight scaled into a habit engine — Walter's hierarchy is the discipline that decides whether a streak is earning the dopamine it spends, or borrowing against trust the product hasn't built yet.
- Dark Patterns A joke at the wrong stakes and a dark pattern spend the same currency: both trade a moment of designed feeling against the user's trust, one through delight misapplied, the other through deception outright.
