Week 06 · Foundations
End of experience
Where this idea goes next
- Fitts's Law Fitts prices the reach to a target already sized and placed. This week is the design decision one step upstream — deciding what size and placement the body actually needs before any reach is priced at all.
- Functional Minimalism Rams subtracts toward "as little design as possible"; the Eameses build up from a body's actual constraint outward. Two routes to the same refusal to decorate past what the function requires.
- Affordance Theory A shell moulded to a spine is felt before it is seen — the purest form of Gibson's affordance, a fit the body discovers by sitting down, no signifier required at all.
